Breast Cancer Fundraisers a Success!

Earlier this year, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins formed a team for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraiser, and we're proud to report that -- despite the rain on the day of the walk -- we finished fifth out of 131 teams!

KDD's amazing derby fans and family members put our overall donations at $2627, over $300 of which came from the generous donations at our last bout. Thanks to all of our fans for showing us so much kindness both on and off the track, and for donating to such a worthy cause!

Victory for Killamazoo!

History was made last night in Kalamazoo. Five years, countless practice hours, immeasurable blood, sweat and tears culminated in the sweetest victory the Killamazoo Derby Darlins has ever seen. The Killa Crew valiantly fought Grand Rapids' G-Rap Attack with ferocity and teamwork that shone brightly regardless of the loss, 187-128. The Darlins' battle against the Grand Raggidy All Stars was hard and the score favored both teams throughout the night, but when it came down to the last jam every person in the stadium was on their feet cheering for the Darlins, who took the victory 239-214. This isn't going to be a play-by-play nor will it be an assessment of the talent and skill that was so expertly portrayed at Wings Stadium last night. This is simply a note of celebration for the 14 women who claimed what was rightfully theirs with sportsmanship and grace. For all of those who couldn't join us last night, don't worry. We'll be celebrating this win for weeks to come.

Congratulations to the Killamazoo Derby Darlins!

New Junior Derby League in Kalamazoo

Are you 17 years or younger and want to find out what Roller Derby is about? Zoo City Rollers Junior League is recruiting young skaters to help form their junior roller derby team. Zoo City coaches will teach you everything you need to know, including how to skate! This is a great opportunity to learn the rules and strategy behind the game of roller derby as well as compete with other junior roller derby leagues. Zoo City Rollers is set up to be a "for the skater by the skater" league meaning skaters will have opportunity to vote and take part in league discussions and promotions.
