Killamazoo Falls to Michigan’s Best

This past weekend, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins kicked off their season with a double-header bout against the Mitten Kittens at home that drew some of the most excited and dedicated derby fans Wings Stadium has ever seen.

After practicing through the off-season, Killamazoo and the Killa Crew were ready to show off some new skills and some new skaters. With the line-ups changing up until the last week, there was some uncertainty as to how the Mitten Kittens would mesh as a team for the bout, but the Kittens had claws after all. The state’s top players came together to form a mega-force that included skaters from Grand Rapids, Detroit, Ann Arbor and Lansing, and while Killa Crew and the Killamazoo Derby Darlins fought hard, it wasn’t enough to beat Michigan’s finest. Killa Crew fell to the Black Cats 173 to Black Cats 227and Killamazoo was bested by the Precious Kitties 187 to 236..

We’re looking ahead to the February 16th home bout against Brewcity to reclaim our turf and Kill! Kill! Kill! See you then!

Fresh Meat Passes Evaluations

Last night three skaters passed the WFTDA evaluations to become the newest members of the Killamazoo Derby Darlins! Congrats to Crashive Aggressive, Soundproof and Ophelia Plenty! We look forward to seeing you on the track at Wings Stadium soon.

See you in 2013!

The Killamazoo Derby Darlins' home season drew to a close on September 15 with two outstanding games against the Kentucky Black-n-Bluegrass Roller Girls. The Killa Crew played hard, but lost 79-213 to the Black-n-Bluegrass Shiners, and finished their home season with a 6-8 record.

KDD fared much better, and completed a solid 312-69 victory over the Black-n-Bluegrass Blackouts, ending their best-ever season at 11-4.

The 2013 season is fast approaching, and with the new renovations at Wings Stadium -- including a giant video screen and new scoreboard -- next year's home bouts are going to be even more fun. See you then!

Mitten Kitten Tournament 2012

The Mitten Kitten tournament kicked off in Utica, Michigan on October sixth. Teams from all across Michigan showed up to compete in a fast and fierce weekend that meant Killa Crew played three games in the span of 48 hours, with the first
being against arch nemesis Grand Raggidy's G-Rap Attack!, followed by bouts versus Brighton and Floral City. With much of Killa never having played multiple bouts in a weekend, each game came with its own set of challenges. They fought hard, never gave up, but ultimately didn’t come up with the wins.

Never the sore losers, many supported other teams from the area throughout the tournament including our own Killamazoo Derby Darlins as they faced the Detroit Derby Girls in a sanctioned match-up that had everyone biting their nails
from start to finish. While KDD also did not come out with a win, the close point spread allowed the team to move up in the rankings.

As a final weekend highlight, the team got to witness their Head Referee, Trickless Magician, make his derby debut with DetRiot, the men’s roller derby league of Detroit playing against Chicago’s Bruise Brothers. While DetRoit lost the bout, Trickless and the rest of the guys won our hearts with their fearless plays and crowd-pleasing antics. We can’t wait to see what next year’s Mitten Kitten tourney brings us, but we’re positive it will be Purrrr Michigan fun.
