The Killamazoo Derby Darlins take on Detroit on July 20 at Wings Stadium. These Detroit seed teams help to create the Detroit Derby Girls, one of four WFTDA leagues in Michigan. They have a dedicated and passionate fan base so this bout is sure to be an exciting one.
The Killa Crew match-up against the Motown Wreckers at 5:30 P.M. The Killa Crew is fresh off of a loss at home to the Ann Arbor Bruising Company, so they’ll be taking the track with a lot of aggression and determination.
The Killamazoo Derby Darlins A team will face-off against the Motor City Disassembly Line at approximately 7 P.M. With the line-up being a nice mix of up-and-coming all-stars and veteran heavy-hitters this game could be a dangerous one for the visiting team.
We are proud to host the Big Brothers Big Sisters as our guests this bout. Look for representatives from this fine local organization blowing the first whistle at our main event at 7 p.m. We hope to see you all there!
On June 21, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins partnered with our long-time sponsor Noodles & Company to host a promotional event and fundraiser. League members were on hand to serve food on skates to customers, sell KDD merchandise and bout tickets, and distribute KDD summer bout schedules. The Westnedge Noodles location generously donated 25% of all food sales from customers who mentioned the KDD promotion during the hours of 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. As an additional incentive, customers could purchase raffle tickets to win a grand prize of free Noodles for a year! The winner of the raffle was selected during our home game the following day at Wings Stadium and proceeds will be donated to our June charity partner, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, a local food pantry. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our friends and relatives who made it out for the event, and also to our sponsor Noodles and Company for their continued support in helping make the event a success for our team as well as our charity partner. We look forward to doing it again soon!
The Killa Crew was invited up to Traverse City to take on the Traverse City Toxic Cherries A team, a team Killa Crew hadn’t matched up against in over 2 years, on June 15th. Unsure of the skill level of the up-and-coming team from the north, Killa Crew came in with some seasoned track veterans as well as some first-time bouters.
The slick floor made for tough skating and the Toxic Cherry walls were even tougher. Killa jammers had a hard time breaking through and blockers had an even tougher time destroying the walls. After playing a very aggressive and hard-hitting bout, Killa Crew lost to the Traverse City Toxic Cherries A Team, 289-93. We look forward to playing TCRD again in the future!
The Killamazoo Derby Darlins got down with their bad selves as they hit the streets of downtown Kalamazoo for the annual Do-Dah Parade. This year, the team chose the theme of “roller disco” and many members dressed up to get down in wigs, bell bottoms, spandex and sweat bands. It was a great time for all and the team had a great time passing out schedules and stickers to fans along the route. Can’t wait to see what theme will roll out next year!
