The Killamazoo A team and B team, the Killa Crew bouted against two different teams in two different cities this past weekend, for the first time in recent league history. The Killamazoo A team visited the Cincinnati Roller Girls in Ohio as the Killa Crew took on region rivals, G-Rap Attack from Grand Rapids. Despite the distance between the two teams, each played solid games but only one team came out victorious.

The Killa Crew had a score to settle with G-Rap Attack after losing to them last season on home turf. G-Rap had to change bout venues at the last minute due to flooding which put both teams on equal footing in terms of home court advantages. Armed with an increasingly effective knowledge of strategies and a fierce group of jammers, Killa Crew was able to take home the win with a final score of 246-180.

Killamazoo at Cincinnati proved to be a different story. Cincinnati sits at the lower end of WFTDA’s Division 1 and Killamazoo has been slowly but surely clawing to the top of Division 2. Cincinnati knew not to underestimate Killamazoo and in the first half of the game, CRG got a run for their money. With penalties piling up and CRG effectively shutting down KDD strategies with fast packs and hard hits, Killamazoo ended their four game winning streak with a final score of 322-213.

On Saturday April 20th, KDD braved the cold and snow (on skates!) to volunteer at and take part in the EZ5K race in support of the Eric Zapata Memorial Foundation. The Darlins lead off the race at the shotgun start and stuck around once they finished to cheer on the runners.

With the help of their generous fans, KDD was able to contribute $370 to the Memorial foundation, which goes towards scholarships for individuals participating in the police academy.

The Darlins were honored to be a part of the race this year, and we look forward to participating in the event next year!

KILLAMAZOO DERBY DARLINS WIN DOUBLE-HEADER

The Killamazoo Derby Darlins hosted the Tri-City Roller Girls from Kitchener, Ontario and the Battle Creek Cereal Killers from Battle Creek, Michigan at Wings Stadium on April 13th with a crowd of 913 spectators. This is the first double-header win at home for Killamazoo this season!

The Killamazoo Derby Darlins A team played a much anticipated bout against the Tri-City Roller Girls. Both teams were close in international rankings and the point spread was expected to be tight. Killamazoo developed an early lead and ended up dominating Tri-City with a final score of 240-126.

The Killamazoo B team, Killa Crew took a hard fought win over neighboring team the Battle Creek Cereal Killers. Both teams were evenly matched in terms of skill level, but the Killas maintained a solid lead, rarely letting a lead change last for too long. Killa Crew took their first home bout win with a score of 279-176.

We’d like to thank Mayor Bobby Hopewell for blowing the first whistle in the second game. We look forward to having him back to Wings stadium for a bout in the future.

The Killamazoo Derby Darlins are hosting their annual Zombie Prom at the 411 Club on May 10th at 8 p.m. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we look forward to seeing all of our fans dressed up in their zombie best.
