Why roller derby? Why not? Where else do I get to wear my underwear on the OUTSIDE???

What's the origin of your derby name? So not family friendly… but if you ask me about it I’ll tell you ;)

What inspires you? The fans motivate me. There is no better feeling than to have someone you’ve never met come up to you and say “that hit on turn 3 in the last jam was amazing”. To know that we made 400 people smile for an hour is awesome.

Injuries? I’m currently hanging out with some road rash from a pretty nasty spill. I’ve had all your usual suspects… hyper-extended knee, sprained ankle, 3 concussions, various bumps and bruises. I’ve got a 3 inch square patch on my leg where I have no feeling from hitting a wall in practice. Nerve damage is fun.

What wheels do you use? Right now I’m rocking out the Heartless Creepers, I like Atoms for sticky/grippy floors, I should have Sugars in my mailbox soon that I’m *stoked* to try out. I always use Bone’s china red bearings. I know everyone says ABEC-9’s are better but darn it I like the red’s.

Do you serve on any KDD committees? I have been treasurer almost since the league was born, I also serve on the board of directors.

What's your non-derby life like? There is life outside of derby? What? OH! You mean that time while I’m at school thinking about derby. I am currently in nursing school and hope to have by BSN in about 4 years. I work at Kalamazoo Public Library and couldn’t imagine a life without books. This isn’t really “non-derby” but I also help plan/coordinate scrimmages for the Vagine Regime, the coalition of queer derby girls.

Advice for someone interested in derby? Make sure you are willing to give up your life for this, falling means you’re trying, and no one is going to laugh at you. I think the last one is the most important… Veteran roller girls can be amazingly intimidating for a newbie but we don’t bite and usually we genuinely want to help. No one laughed at us when we could barely stand upright on quads and we aren’t going to do it to someone else. Derby girls are sisters, whether they like it or not.
